Kent Mayeux is a retired Louisiana attorney with a lifelong passion for the history and heritage of his home state. A native of Louisiana with deep French Creole roots, Kent has spent years researching his own documented Mayeux and Bordelon ancestors — colonial settlers who arrived in French Louisiana in the early 18th century and helped shape the land that would one day become part of the United States.
That research became The 14th Colony, a four-book historical fiction series following Kent's ancestors from their arrival at Biloxi in 1720 through the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Blending meticulous genealogical and historical research with rich, character-driven storytelling, the series brings colonial Louisiana to life — its wilderness, its hardships, and the families who endured them.
Kent lives in Prairieville, Louisiana, with his wife. When he's not writing, he can usually be found duck hunting in the marsh or manning the grill for a proper Louisiana barbecue. He is married with two children and three grandchildren, and was a featured author at the 2015 Louisiana Book Festival.
